The NSPCA wishes to thank the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund for their grant ot R472,000 for training and upskilling personnel in 2010.


INTRODUCTION

Every year the National SPCA runs training courses for:-

  • Inspectors
  • Refresher Inspectors
  • Senior Inspectors
  • Committee Training
  • Specialised Courses (for SAPS etc)

  INSPECTORS AND REFRESHER COURSES

  • Four courses are run yearly, approximately every once every four months.
  • Dates are subject to change, as issues such as National Disasters may require the release of Inspectors to attend to animals in crisis.
  • There are specific requirements for attending the course, and only people meeting these requirements are eligible to attend.
  • Refresher training is for qualified inspectors who have to attend a training course every 5 years to receive the most recent information in technology, legislation and information on animal care, including diseases and disease control.
  • This is a two week course.
  • The course concludes in a 2 hour written examination.
  • Training is undertaken in Gauteng at the National offices.  

SENIOR INSPECTORS TRAINING

  • One Senior Training Course is held annually
  • As with the Inspectors Course, the date may change subject to major or national crisis involving animals.
  • Delegates have to meet specific requirements in order to be eligible to attend this course, one of which is that they must have been qualified as an inspector for a minimum of 3 years.
  • This is a two week course.
  • The course concludes in a 3 hour written examination.
  • Training is undertaken in Gauteng at the National offices.  

COMMITTEE TRAINING COURSES

  • Available only to SPCA Committee Members
  • Duration is 1.5 days, over a weekend
  • Run on request of a specified number of members and societies
  • Training is undertaken at provincial venues as required

OTHER COURSES

In the interests of progressing animal welfare and best practice we endeavor to assist in the presentation of Animal Welfare courses where possible. Tailor made courses and presentations have been given to a wide variety of animal industry personnel such as SAPS Stock Theft Unit, Correctional Services etc.
