“FREE RANGE OPTION” TAKEN BY PICK N PAY
The National Council of
SPCAs (N
SPCA) confirms with appreciation that Pick n Pay will be using free range eggs in their Guinness Book of Records attempt to make the world’s biggest omelette. The event – with the food being given to charity – will take place on World Egg Day: - which coincides with the end of International Animal Week on 10 October.
Appreciation is expressed to Pick n Pay that the calls and e-mails from the N
SPCA were not only acknowledged but the message of “animal welfare first” was heeded. Jonathan Ackerman of Pick n Pay confirmed personally to the N
SPCA last night that 60 000 free range eggs would be used to make the omelette.
This responsible decision is noted and appreciated. It sends out a message of care and consideration for the lives of animals, at the same time confirming that Pick n Pay listen to their customers and heed the messages of animal welfare in our country.
The N
SPCA offered assistance in terms of sourcing the number of free range eggs within the time limitation. Pick n Pay confirmed that they had found suppliers.
A conscious decision has been taken to include animal welfare as a key element in the Guinness Book of Records attempt. Hungry people will benefit. Additionally, a message is now being sent out that animals matter to the South African public and to the retailer.
The N
SPCA thanks caring individuals who take the “free range” or compassionate food approach. We can all make a difference and it is good to know that sales outlets are listening and acting accordingly.
