SPCA CONDEMNS “SAFARI TALENT AUCTION”
GENERATE MONEY ETHICALLY!
“Hunting in the name of charity! I think this is disgusting,” read the fax received by the National Council of
SPCAs on the Cathcart Round Table’s “Safari Talent Auction.”

Dispatch, the announcement states that bidding starts on 19 October via
www.sheardauctioneers.co.za for the following prizes: - and “all monies raised will be given to various charities.”

Hotfire Safari Hunt: - 2 nights, meals, 2 impala, 2 mountain reedbuck and spa treatment for partners

Lafapa Safaris Hunt: - 2 nights, meals 1 black wildebeest, 1 springbuck, 1 mountain reedbuck, 1 impala

SPCA has been unable to reach a representative of the Cathcart Round Table to express disappointment and to appeal to the Round Table to put into practice its stated motto of “Adopt, adapt, improve.”
“Hunting may be a means of raising money but it ethical?” asked N
SPCA Public Relations Officer Christine Kuch. “Our organisation is in need of income but to accept money from wanton killing for sport or entertainment would be hypocritical – shameful in fact. They need to adapt to the sensitivities of the 21st century, to adopt caring principles and to improve their image – as it has surely been tarnished by this venture.”
It is noted on their web site that "Round Table Southern Africa is a non-political, non-denominational association of young men between the ages of 18 and 40, embracing representatives of nearly every profession and occupation, whose objects encompass the encouragement of
high ethical standards.”

SPCA has highlighted above the wording which we feel is of tantamount importance and which needs to be demonstrated by the Cathcart Round Table.
